Dear Falcon Community,

Recently, we sent a letter home that summarized our staff’s heartfelt work teaching the 7 Habits this year. The letter introduced our goals for building upon the foundation we’ve established through a program called Leader in Me. Since then, Associate Katie Ronning and I have spoken directly with parents who are excited about this work and with parents about their concerns for this program.

In an effort to demonstrate our commitment to seeking first to understand, we have paused our efforts in adopting Leader in Me for the time, so that our VPS supplemental materials review team can conduct a thorough review of the Leader in Me materials. We have been told that this process may take the summer to complete. When the review is complete, the supplemental materials review team will make recommendations, which we will adhere to and will share with you.

In the meantime, we understand that many of you are planning to attend our upcoming PTA meeting on Tuesday, June 12, at 6:00pm, and we are excited about that! Our PTA Board has a full agenda that includes budget for next year. However, PTA will not make a motion to donate funds toward Leader in Me as the district is conducting the materials review process. That said, many of our teachers will be at the meeting, and time has been allocated at the end to discuss our work and progress this year, describe our goals for the future, and answer any questions you might have. I invite you to attend, so you can hear firsthand about our experiences and aspirations.

As our year nears its close, I want to thank you for sending us your students. It is an honor to be part of a child’s learning path, helping each one discover his/her own potential. We are committed to this work and to each of our young Falcons.

Together we lead for kids,

Kris Janati
